A 10 KB window is narrower than it sounds

CSBC's advertisement 01/2025 sets both the photograph and the signature at 15 to 25 KB. That leaves very little room: drop quality too far and you fall under 15 KB, keep the original resolution and you sail past 25 KB. The reliable order is to resize the pixels first — a photo around 300 x 380 px — and only then trade quality until the file settles near 20 KB.

Two signatures, in two scripts

Clause 13 of the advertisement asks for the signature in English and in Hindi, uploaded as separate files, both in black or blue ink on white. Candidates frequently sign twice on one sheet and upload the same crop into both fields, which defeats the purpose. Crop each signature on its own.

The format list is unusually generous

CSBC accepts .jpg, .jpeg and .gif — the only entity on this site that mentions GIF at all. It is a legacy allowance and not an advantage: GIF stores photographs with a 256-colour palette, so at 20 KB a JPEG will look considerably better. Use the format list as reassurance rather than an invitation, and keep the photograph no more than two months old as the advertisement requires.

How it works

  1. Take a colour photo on a white background within the last two months.
  2. Resize and export it between 15 and 25 KB.
  3. On white paper, write your signature twice — once in English and once in Hindi.
  4. Crop each signature separately and export both between 15 and 25 KB.
  5. Upload the photo, the English signature and the Hindi signature in their own fields.
  6. Keep the same photo file for later stages of the physical test and document check.

Upload errors and how to fix them

Photo size must be between 15 KB and 25 KB
This is a narrow 10 KB window. Resize the photo to about 300 x 380 px first, then adjust quality until the file lands near 20 KB.
Hindi signature not uploaded
CSBC asks for both signatures as separate files. Sign once in Devanagari and once in English on the same sheet, then crop and export them individually.
Background is not white
The advertisement says the background must be white for the photo and the signature. Scan the signature from plain white paper, not lined notebook paper.
Photograph older than two months
CSBC sets a two-month recency rule, the tightest of any state force here apart from UPSC's ten days. Take a fresh photo before applying.

Which forms ask for this

Common questions

Why does Bihar Police ask for two signatures?
The advertisement requires one signature in Hindi and one in English, uploaded separately. BPSC does the same. It is a state-level convention, and skipping either file leaves the application incomplete.
Can I upload a GIF for the Bihar Police form?
Yes. CSBC is the only entity on FileKB that lists .gif alongside .jpg and .jpeg. JPEG is still the safer choice because it compresses photographs far better at 20 KB.
How do I get a photo down to 20 KB for CSBC?
First shrink the image — around 300 x 380 px — then lower the JPEG quality. Dropping quality alone makes the photo blurry at 20 KB.
What are the pixel dimensions for the CSBC photo?
None are published. The advertisement gives only the file size, the format list, the white background and the two-month recency rule, so any pixel figure elsewhere is someone's estimate.
Is the same spec used for the Constable-Operator advertisement?
We verified advertisement 01/2025. A newer CSBC advertisement exists that we did not fetch, so check clause 13 of your own advertisement before uploading.
