How to make a 10 KB signature — and keep it under 20 KB
Signature in 10 to 20 KB — this is India's most common signature rule, and the real work isn't the KB limit, it's the crop.

One page for the whole 10-20 KB family
FileKB used to have separate pages for 10 KB and 20 KB signatures, which was silly: no portal asks for exactly 10 KB, and every portal that mentions either number gives the same range. IBPS and SBI want 140 x 60 px at 10-20 KB, SSC wants a 6.0 x 2.0 cm box at 10-20 KB, and Sarathi wants 256 x 64 px at 10-20 KB.
Cropping decides the file size
A signature is ink on white. White compresses to almost nothing, so the file size is driven by how much ink is in the frame and how sharp its edges are. A scan that includes half a page of paper wastes pixels and still ends up too large because of scanner noise across the empty area. Crop to the ink first and everything else becomes easy.
The two rules that are not about size
Banks reject signatures written in capital letters, and SSC rejects signatures that look miniature inside their box. Both are about the mark itself, not the file. Sign the way you sign a cheque, make it big on paper, and use a black pen — the KB range then takes care of itself.
How it works
- Sign on plain white paper with a black pen, making the signature large and clear.
- Scan at 200 dpi or photograph the paper in even light with no shadow.
- Crop right up to the edges of the ink — no wide white border.
- Resize to your portal's box: 140 x 60 px for banks, 256 x 64 px for Sarathi.
- Set the range to 10-20 KB and check the badge shows a match rather than a pad.
- Download as signature.jpg and keep the file for the rest of the cycle.
