Photo dimensions in pixels — 200x230, 140x60, 350x350, 600x600

Pixel size only matters when the portal has actually specified it — here are four such boxes, each with its source.

Pixel dimensions are the least portable part of a form's instructions. The same passport photograph is one hundred and thirty-eight by one hundred and seventy-seven pixels at one hundred dots per inch and four hundred and thirteen by five hundred and thirty-one at three hundred, so a number quoted without its dpi is close to meaningless. This section keeps only the boxes we found printed in an official document.

Two hundred by two hundred and thirty pixels is the banking photograph box, published by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection and repeated in state and university recruitment guidelines that copied the format. One hundred and forty by sixty pixels is its signature partner, and the pair almost always appear together.

Three hundred and fifty by three hundred and fifty pixels is the minimum for the Indian visa photograph, which must be square with an upper bound of one thousand pixels a side. Six hundred by six hundred pixels is the United States non-immigrant visa photograph, square and considerably larger than anything Indian portals ask for.

Other popular numbers — three hundred by three hundred, four hundred by four hundred, four hundred and thirteen by five hundred and thirty-one, two hundred and ninety-five by four hundred and thirteen — circulate widely on resizer sites, and we could not find an Indian portal that prints them as a requirement. Rather than publish a page implying an authority that does not exist, those addresses forward to the crop tool with the dimensions filled in. The result is identical for you and honest for us.

Each page here explains the centimetre equivalent, the composition that fits the box, and the order to work in: crop to the pixel target first, then chase the kilobyte window, because resizing after compressing throws the file weight out again.
