Signature 10 to 50 KB — CUET's window and Rajasthan's 280 x 80 px box

A 10-50 KB signature is the roomiest window in common use — the risk is not the ceiling but the floor, and for Rajasthan the pixel range too.

1 KB means 1024 bytes here, the same counting Windows and most portals use. If your form counts 1 KB as 1000 bytes, aim about 3% below its limit.

Source: CUET (UG) 2026 Information Bulletin — image upload specifications (NTA) (CUET (UG) 2026 bulletin, published January 2026). checked on 2026-09-20. CUET gives no pixel box; the Rajasthan portal gives 280 x 80 to 560 x 160 px for the same KB range. The preset uses the Rajasthan minimum so one file satisfies both.

Specifications change between recruitment cycles. Always check the current official notification before you upload.

Two portals that agree on the bytes

Page 9 of the CUET (UG) 2026 Information Bulletin lists the signature as a JPG between 10 KB and 50 KB, alongside a photograph of 10-200 KB with the face filling 80% of the frame. The Rajasthan recruitment portal's upload guide gives the identical 10-50 KB window for its signature but goes further: the image must be at least 280 x 80 pixels and at most 560 x 160, and the signature should be made inside a 7 x 2 cm box with a black or dark-blue pen. Both bounds are 7:2, so the portal is really telling you the shape as well as the size.

The floor is the real constraint

Fifty kilobytes is a lot of room for ink on paper. A cleanly cropped 280 x 80 px signature is often only 10-14 KB, which puts it right on the floor rather than anywhere near the ceiling. That is the failure people do not expect: the portal says 'between 10 and 50' and refuses a 9 KB file. The fix is not to add noise or pad blindly but to give the image a little more to store — 420 x 120 px at quality 85 is comfortably inside the range on both portals and still well under the Rajasthan maximum.

One scan, several forms

Because the Rajasthan bounds bracket a range rather than a single size, a signature made to 280 x 80 px doubles as a CUET file, and a 560 x 160 px version is a good master to keep. If a later notice asks for the narrower 10-20 KB banking range or NTA's 10-100 KB window, re-export from the original scan rather than resizing a JPEG that has already been compressed once. The matching photograph rule for the Rajasthan portal — 240 x 320 to 480 x 640 pixels at 50-100 KB — has its own page at 240 x 320.

How it works

  1. Rule a 7 x 2 cm box on white paper and sign across most of it in black or dark-blue ink.
  2. Scan at 200 dpi or photograph from directly above with no shadow across the box.
  3. Crop exactly to the box so the image is 7:2 in shape.
  4. Resize to 280 x 80 px (the preset default) or up to 560 x 160 px if you want more detail.
  5. Set the range to 10-50 KB and confirm the badge shows a match — pad only if it falls under 10 KB.
  6. Download as JPG; the same file works for CUET and for Rajasthan recruitment forms.

Upload errors and how to fix them

Signature size should be between 10 KB and 50 KB
The floor bites more often than the ceiling. Crop to the 7:2 box, resize to at least 280 x 80 px, and set the minimum to 10 KB so the tool pads rather than under-delivers.
Signature image dimensions are not within the allowed range
Rajasthan checks pixels as well as bytes: between 280 x 80 and 560 x 160. Resize to one of those, do not leave a 1200 px wide scan and hope the KB check is the only one.
Signature not in prescribed box / too small
Sign large enough to fill the 7 x 2 cm rectangle. A small signature enlarged digitally goes fuzzy and reads as a poor scan.
Signature must be in running hand, not capital letters
NTA applies the same rule as its other exams. Sign normally; do not print your name.

Which forms ask for this

Common questions

signature size 10 to 50 kb in pixels — what should I use?
CUET does not publish pixels. The Rajasthan portal does: at least 280 x 80 and at most 560 x 160. Using 280 x 80 satisfies both portals and lands around 10-15 KB; if it dips below 10 KB, go up to 420 x 120 rather than padding.
Is a 50 KB signature too big for CUET?
50 KB is the CUET ceiling, so a file at exactly 50 KB is at the edge. Aim for the middle of the range, around 20-30 KB, so a browser re-encode on upload cannot tip it over.
how to make signature 10 kb to 50 kb from a photo?
Crop to the signature box, resize the width to 280-560 px and export as JPG at quality 80-90. Most scans land between 12 and 30 KB with no further work. Use the minimum field only if the result is under 10 KB.
Does Rajasthan accept blue ink?
The portal's guide says black or dark-blue pen on white paper. Light blue gel and pencil scan faintly and are the usual reasons a signature is called unclear.
Why does my 8 KB signature fail when the limit is 50 KB?
Because 10 KB is a floor on both portals. Very small files are treated as crushed scans. Raise the pixel size or quality until the file passes 10 KB — the tool's padding is the last resort.
Can I reuse my 10-20 KB banking signature here?
Usually yes, since 10-20 KB sits inside 10-50 KB, but check the shape: the banking box is 140 x 60 px, which is below Rajasthan's 280 x 80 minimum. Re-export from the original scan at the larger size instead of upscaling the small file.
